Fungal Toenails

Fungal infection of the toenails is called Onychomycosis. It is a condition that causes the toenails to become discoloured (often yellow or white in appearance), thickened and brittle or flaky.

Certain medical conditions, environmental conditions and/or trauma can increase your risk of Onychomycosis.

Onychomycosis is rarely dangerous in otherwise healthy individuals however, the thickened, discoloured nails may cause pain with activity and can create psychosocial issues.

It is worth noting that not all nail discolouration is fungal in origin.
