Children’s Podiatry
At Berwick Podiatry, we deal with foot concerns in individuals of all ages, including children.
Children’s feet are very different from adults. At 6 months the foot is still mostly cartilage.
At around 9-14 months, most children will take their first steps.
Those first few steps are an exciting time, and just imagine, your child will likely use those feet to walk an equivalent of 3 times around the planet in their lifetime.
Up to the ages of 7-8 you may notice changes in the way your child is walking. Children are developing their ‘adult’ walking style during this time.
When you book an appointment with Berwick Podiatry, the Podiatrist will complete a full Paediatric Foot Assessment. This involves looking at joints of the hip, knee and feet, muscle strength, reflexes and balance, and compare these results to normal ranges for their age group, and manage accordingly.
We will then look further into their specific complaints, diagnose the cause and then implement a treatment plan.
We also complete Children’s Footwear Assessment, to ensure that your child is in the right shoes. The beginning of the year before school or kindergarten starts is a great time to bring them in.
Common Concerns:
Heel Pain - Can be related to a number of conditions including Calcaneal Apophysitis (Severs), Plantar Fasciitis or Achillies Tendinopathy.
Flat Feet - At Berwick Podiatry we encounter many parents concerned about their children’s flat feet. Flat feet may or may not be normal in their circumstance so it is best to have them assessed.
