Diabetes Foot Assessment

Diabetes is a condition that can affect the whole body, and complications related to Diabetes can occur in the feet.
Diabetes can cause reduced blood flow to the feet, and damage to the nerves that give us sensation and feeling in our feet.
This damage occurs due to elevated blood sugar levels, so long term poorly controlled Diabetes puts individuals at greater risk of foot concerns.

If you are living with Diabetes, it is important to see a Podiatrist regularly. Your Podiatrist should conduct a Diabetes Foot Health Assessment yearly, to ensure that if there are any changes, they are picked up early.
A Diabetes Foot Assessment involves a thorough assessment of your circulation by looking at the condition of your feet, presence of pulses, and a Doppler ultrasound evaluation of your arterial flow within your feet.
We then test the sensation in your feet. The assessment is a pleasant experience and you will leave with an understanding of the health of your feet.

In addition to regular foot health assessments, your Podiatrist at Berwick Podiatry will provide advice for protecting your feet, and we can assist with foot care if required.
We are able to provide you with advice regarding good footwear, provide skin and nail care, and assist referral to specialists if required.

If you wish to make an appointment, give our friendly reception a call on (03) 9707 4007.

We accept GP referral under Medicare, and can claim the rebate for you on the spot.

However you don’t need a referral to see us, and we can process private health insurance through HICAPS so you only pay the gap.
